Indiana Sportsbooks Have Booked More than a Quarter Billion in Wagers to Date

The Indiana Gaming Commission released November’s sports betting revenue figures this week and once again the state’s sportsbooks had a big month with total handle in excess of $147 million.

Since sports betting got underway in September, Indiana sportsbooks have taken more than a quarter billion worth of wagers.

  • September 2019 statewide handle: $35,215,416
  • October 2019 statewide handle: $91,697,393
  • November 2019 statewide handle: $147,276,915
  • Year to date statewide handle: $274,189,724

Continued Growth for Mobile Betting

Mobile betting handle grew by more than $48 million for a 100% increase from October to November. Much of the change was led by FanDuel Sportsbook, which saw a 900% increase in total wagers placed month over month.

This was the first full month for all three mobile sportsbooks, but FanDuel only recently launched on October 21st while the other two launched on October 3rd. With a full month in action, FanDuel was able to grow handle by more than $21 million.

As the chart below shows, all three betting sites grew by no less than 34% from October to November. DraftKings, BetRivers and FanDuel are all going strong heading into the final stretch of 2019.

Mobile SportsbookOctober HandleNovember Handle% Change

Mobile sports betting now accounts for 65% of total wagers placed across the state. It seems mobile betting is on pace to match New Jersey, where mobile betting accounts for roughly 80% of total handle.

Most Retail Sportsbooks Also Saw Growth

Mobile sportsbooks were not alone in experiencing growth in November. Nearly all of Indiana’s retail sportsbooks saw growth in betting handle from October to November.

Horseshoe Hammond came in as the big winner of the month once again with nearly $13 million in wagering handle representing a 21% increase over last month. Being located less than half an hour from downtown Chicago continues to pay dividends for Horseshoe Hammond.

Indiana Grand was the only casino to see a fall in retail sports betting handle, from about $1.5 million in October to about $1.4. million in November for a 10% drop in total wagers placed.

Total Indiana Betting Handle Up 61%

Putting it all together, November was a good month for sports betting in Indiana. Handle rose across the board when we lump together online wagering, in-person wagering and the three off-track betting locations operated by Caesars properties.

Total handle from all sources grow by more than $55 million in November, representing a 61% increase over October’s results.

Most Popular Sports to Bet on in Indiana Last Month

Football and basketball betting saw the most growth in November as expected.

With the NFL season going strong and basketball getting into full swing, handle on both sports jumped significantly. Baseball betting fell off a cliff in November with the World Series finishing up on October 30th.
